Baccarat Strategies
Baccarat is actually a reasonably simple casino game to play, even for people who do not entirely know the specifics of the rules. Online baccarat presents new players the opportunity to study how the game works at their own pace while playing for free or for low stakes.
There are no actual decisions for players to make other than wherever they would want to bet each hand. All the actions during the deal are made according to a predetermined rule set, so asides from somewhere to wager there is not much to do besides wait and see what transpires.
In the beginning, baccarat players have the option of laying a bet on either the dealers hand, the players, or else a tie. The round then starts with the player and dealer getting 2 cards face-up. The goal is for the hand to get as near to a total of nine as it can. Jacks, queens and kings are worth 0, with other cards at their face value. If a hand goes higher than nine, 10 is subtracted from the hand total. For instance, a 7 and a 6 would total thirteen, which would make for a hand total of 3 after 10 is removed.
Winning bets on either the players hand or bankers pays even money (1 to 1), although a small house commission is charged on winning banker bets. Tie bets that win pay 9 for 1, which strategically speaking is not a smart bet.
After the first 2 cards, extra cards are given out if needed. When a hand totals 9 or 8 following the opening deal, it is a “natural” – which wins without any more cards being drawn – unless both hands are a natural, which results in a tie. If neither hand is a natural, further cards are given out to establish the winning hand based on set rules.
Based on the lack on player input (with the exception of the original bet), the only actual strategy that could help the player would be card counting to recognize prospective tie opportunities or hand advantages.
